Are there any fees for your services?
The official registration is free and does not require payment. You may need to have a certain amount of money to make a photo, necessary for documents and for personal needs. At the time of registration of official documents, candidates for military service under a contract independently choose and pay for accommodation in a hotel or hostel.
I do not have military or combat experience. Do I stand a chance to be selected?
Yes, especially if you have any other valuable experience. Please, make sure to list most of your useful skills and proficiencies in an application. As a serviceman you will be provided with all necessary military trainings In Ukraine in due time.
What roles can foreigners occupy in the Ukrainian military?
There are no formal limitations. Your exact role will be determined based on your skills demonstrated during the training process, your previous experience and personal achievements during the service. If you have any preferences please specify them in your email application.
Who are the foreign volunteers?
The foreign volunteers are the non-citizens of Ukraine who voluntarily joined the official
military service of Ukraine and became military servicemen of Ukrainian military units.
Which units do you recruit to?
All units to which foreign volunteers are recruited are official military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Transport Special Service.
After I send my application – what happens next?
We review the formal aspects of your application. If everything is in order, we appoint an online interview.
How long do I have to wait for a reply?
We usually respond to your initial email ASAP but no longer than within 14 days. If you haven’t received a reply by then, please resend the application.
How do I travel to Ukraine?
After being accepted You will be provided with the recommendations on how to get to Ukraine and details on the locations of the meeting points.
Are travel expenses compensated?
Logistics costs to the border of Ukraine are not compensated. Movement within Ukraine is carried out centrally by groups, which provides for a certain schedule. Candidates can, if they wish, get to the Recruitment Center from the border at their own expense.
Can you issue me a visa, travel document or a signed contract?
We do not issue visas or any documents that can be used for travel to the EU. Since you need to travel to Ukraine by land, you must be legally permitted to enter one of the neighbouring countries: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, or Moldova. From there crossing the border into Ukraine should be simple.
Do I need a visa or other documents to travel to Ukraine?

Will I be considered a mercenary or a criminal if I join Armed Forces of Ukraine as a volunteer?
No, you will become a fully legal serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, just like all other Ukrainians and non-citizens who bravely serve. However, we highly recommend checking with your local laws about your state’s stance towards people who served in other countries’ military units.
Should I bring anything with me? If yes – what?
You will receive all the basic equipment, including a uniform, weapons, body armor, helmet, boots, and more. Please refrain from purchasing any additional items until you have been approved.
What languages do I need to speak to be able to join?
At least one from the list: English, Spanish, Russian, or Ukrainian.
What is included in the training?
The training includes live fire drills (shooting, throwing grenades), tactics, tactical medicine, explosives, engineering training, etc. If necessary, additional specialized training is also provided.
Can I terminate the contract?
Yes, no earlier than 6 months from the date of its conclusion.
Termination of the contract in a shorter period is not provided.
What are the terms of the contract?
The contract is concluded for 3 years.
All terms of service (pay, food and clothing, etc.) are identical to the terms of service for the Ukrainian military. The serviceman is provided with a personal protection equipment, summer and winter uniforms and other necessary items of clothing, as well as weapons and ammunition.
According to Ukrainian legislation, a foreigner may terminate the contract no earlier than 6 months from the date of its conclusion.
If I am injured – what happens next?
While being treated in a hospital - all payments are retained at the level of the last financial support (general rule). After hospitalization - depends on the severity of the injury, disability, place of treatment or rehabilitation, and the duration of such treatment/rehabilitation.
The amount of payments depends on the degree of disability and disability group:
1. In case of determining the degree of disability in percentage terms (without determining disability):
- the amount of the benefit is determined as a percentage of the 70 times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons, as established by the MSEC;
- as of January 1 of the calendar year in accordance with the date specified in the MSEC certificate (as of January 1, 2024, the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons is UAH 3,028). For example, 25% × 70 × 3,028 = UAH 52,990.
2. In case of establishing a disability group:
- The amount of assistance is determined depending on the group of disability and its causal connection (with the performance of military service duties, in particular, the defense of the Motherland, or with military service), based on the subsistence minimum established for able-bodied persons as of January 1 of the calendar year.
- In 2024, the one-time financial assistance in case of disability related to the defense of the homeland or military service is determined in the following amounts:
- Disability group 1 - 400 times the subsistence minimum (UAH 1,211,200);
- Disability group 2 - 300 times the subsistence minimum (UAH 908,400);
- Disability group 3 - 250 times the subsistence minimum (UAH 757,000).
- In 2024, the one-time financial assistance in case of disability related to military service is determined in the following amounts:
- Disability group 1 - 120 times the subsistence level (UAH 363,360);
- Disability group 2 - 90 times the subsistence level (UAH 272,520);
- Disability group 3 - 70 times the subsistence minimum (UAH 211,960).
What are the payments to relatives for the captured military (or missing) foreigner serviceman?
The amount of payment to families is equal to the amount of monthly financial support received at the last place of service of the serviceman who was taken prisoner. Payments are made on the basis of applications from relatives.
The same payments are made to relatives of missing persons, starting after 15 days of no information on the whereabouts of the soldier.
Is there any support service / hotline?
Yes. During your service in Ukraine, you can always contact support by phone, which will be notified to you after the start of your service or found online in free access.
Can I choose a military unit on my own?
Yes. You can decide on a specific military unit where you want to serve, contact it, and after registration at the Recruiting Center, you will be sent to such a unit for service. In this case, we recommend taking into account the presence of commanders who speak your language and other foreigners in the unit.
Will I be able to change the military unit (transfer)?
Yes. With the consent of your commander and the commander of the unit to which you want to transfer, your transfer to another military unit can be organized.
How the process of enlistment looks like?
1. Contact + preliminary sending of copies of documents + preliminary interview (online);
2. Obtaining recommendations on logistics (transportation) to the meeting point;
3. At the UA border: meet and take to the Recruitment Center;
4. Processing and special check: usually up to 2 weeks – we organize all the activities:
- a. Translation of passport + notarization of a copy;
- b. Signing of documents (consent to the processing of personal data, survey questionnaire)
- c. Special check (special verification) in databases;
- d. Medical examination (VLC)
- e. Assignment of TIN
- f. Opening a card account in the bank
- g. Formation of a personal file, and signing the necessary documents.
- h. If necessary - polygraph.
Accommodation in the camp and meals are provided by the host party during the registration process.
Determination of the unit and position to be served – during these 2 weeks.
5. Moving to the Training Center (centralized). Preparation.
- a. There may be options to go directly to the military unit that recruited the person (as confirmed by a letter from the military unit). In this case, the military unit is obliged to provide training on its own (in practice, this is not always the case).
6. Moving to your military unit.
What are the payments for the death of a foreign military personnel?
The payment of a one-time financial assistance in case of death of the servicemen during martial law amounts to UAH 15 million (340 000 EURO).
The right to receive a one-time financial assistance is granted to:
- parents of the deceased (killed) serviceman;
- one of the spouses who did not remarry;
- children of the deceased serviceman who have not reached the age of majority;
- dependents of the deceased serviceman (children aged 18 to 23 who are studying full-time in educational institutions; persons with disabilities; persons who are entitled to a pension in connection with the loss of the breadwinner of the deceased serviceman).
The first payment is 1/5 of the total amount, and the rest is paid monthly for 40 months.
What is the payment?
Cash payments to foreign military personnel who have signed a contract: (1EURO = 44 UAH)
There are no payments until the contract is signed. While a special check is being carried out (usually 10-14 days from the moment of arrival in Ukraine), the candidate lives and eats at the expense of the host party (recruiting center or a specific military unit that invited him).
After signing the contract:
- for the period of training at the Training Center (from 3 to 6 weeks),
- cohesion within the unit (rarely, but maybe another 1-4 weeks)
- staying outside the combat zone (now it is rare)
= financial support of 20500 UAH/month (465 EURO)
Military service after graduation:
+ 30 thousand UAH (682 EURO) - for military personnel who perform combat (special) tasks outside the combat zone, in accordance with combat orders (instructions), per month in proportion to the time spent performing such tasks;
or
+ 50 thousand UAH (1136 EURO) - for performing combat (special) tasks as part of a military command and control body, headquarters of a group of troops (forces) or headquarters of a tactical group up to and including the command post of an operational and strategic group of troops (including outside the areas of combat (military operations)), which carries out operational (combat) control of military units and subdivisions, conducting military (combat) operations on the line of combat contact at the distance of combat (special) missions by a military unit (subdivision, including a consolidated unit) of the first echelon of defense or offensive (counteroffensive, counterattack) up to and including a battalion (per month in proportion to the time of participation in such actions and events).
or (and this is our preferred option for all foreigners):
+ 100 thousand UAH (2 272 EURO) - for military personnel who are directly involved in hostilities or ensure the implementation of measures for national security and defense, repulsion and deterrence of armed aggression, being directly in the areas of their conduct (implementation), in particular in the territory temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation and the territory of the enemy, and
+ 70 thousand UAH (1591 EURO) - a one-time cash payment for every 30 days (total calculated) of combat missions:
- on the contact line;
- or on the temporarily occupied territory;
- or between the positions of the Defense Forces and the troops of the aggressor state;
- or on the enemy's territory.
So, when serving on the frontline you will get 3-4 thousands EURO per month.
