“¡Libertad, libertad, libertad!” – Argentina’s Independence Day
On July 9, Argentina celebrates Independence Day. On this day in 1816, the Congress of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata adopted the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the country's separation from the Spanish Crown. This historic event marked a turning point in the struggle of the peoples of South America for freedom and sovereignty and became an important milestone in the history of the entire continent.
Independence Day represents a decisive step in the establishment of Argentina as a sovereign state and in the formation of the Argentine nation.
From the late nineteenth century through the first half of the twentieth century, Ukrainian immigrants made a significant contribution to Argentina's development, laying the foundation for the long-standing friendship between our two countries. Argentina was the only Latin American country to recognize the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic in 1921 and the first to recognize Ukraine's independence in 1991.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the freedom-loving people of Argentina on this national holiday.
We are grateful to the Argentine volunteers who have joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and who, shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians, are defending freedom and independence against aggression and imperialism. Their courage and commitment to freedom strengthen the bond between our nations.
