Steadfast and Happy in Unity – Peru’s Independence Day
On July 28, the Republic of Peru celebrates its Independence Day. On this date in 1821, Peruvians fought with courage and valor in the Latin American wars of independence to become a sovereign nation. From the moment they heard: “Peru is from this moment free and independent by the general will of the people… Long live the homeland!”, a phrase that resounded simultaneously in the Plaza Mayor, La Merced, Santa Ana, and the Inquisition in Lima, they determined their own path.
On July 28, 1821, Peru declared its independence, marking the birth of the Peruvian nation. This proclamation rejected colonial rule and began the final stage of the struggle for independence, which culminated in the victory at the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824.
Peruvian volunteers are contributing greatly to the fight for the freedom of Ukraine. Alongside Ukrainians and volunteers from other countries, they are fighting against russian imperialist aggression. These modern-day Inca warriors demonstrate discipline, strategy, and adaptability. Fighting shoulder to shoulder, Peruvians and Ukrainians have forged a strong brotherhood in the face of the invasion.
We celebrate and congratulate our Peruvian friends on this very special day! On this date of great significance, we wish Peru continued economic growth and prosperity, the strengthening of its cultural roots, and a future filled with opportunity and continued success.
